IMPORTANT - MARK SCHEME FOR JANUARY 2012 EXAM PAPER

Hi everyone,

I would strongly recommend you have a go at completing the exam paper before reading this mark scheme but I thought I would go ahead and upload it for those of you who want to see the examiner's recommended answers first.  Don't be too put off by some of the words and phrases they use in the mark scheme, it's written for exam markers and not students so if you want me to explain anything, please email me or pop in to school during one of the allocated revision sessions.  If you do have a go at this past paper, bring it into school and I'll mark it for you.

Hope the exams and revision are going well for you all : - )

Past Examination Results for GCSE Media Studies at DBS

I am often asked about examination results for Media students at DBS so I thought I would share them on this blog.  I am very proud to say that our students always achieve high grades and I am optimistic that this year's cohort of GCSE students will be equally as successful as their past counterparts.

Results 2011 (27 students)

8 As, 7 Bs, 10 Cs and 2 Ds.

Results 2010 (23 students)

7 A*s, 6 As, 5 Bs, 2 Cs and 3 Ds.

Although it looks as though we have had a dip in results, I should explain that the students in 2010 sat the AQA Media paper which required students to receive the paper four weeks before the examination date and enabled students to prepare answers beforehand - hence our amazing results that year!  The students in 2011 sat the WJEC Media paper which they only saw on the day of the examination and therefore their results more accurately reflect their true abilities and hard work.

Although the structure of the examination is the same every year (Section A Analysis of a media text, Section B Create a media text), the examination topic is different every year.

The examination topic for 2012 is Music.  Section A: Industry Websites; Section B: Music Magazines.
